The purpose of the NCIDQ, which stands for the National Council for Interior Design Qualification, is to identify proficient interior designers. This organization administers a certification exam that assesses an individual's knowledge and skills in interior design, ensuring that practitioners meet a certain standard of education and experience. By establishing these qualifications, NCIDQ helps to enhance public safety and welfare by promoting high standards in the practice of interior design. Through this certification, clients and employers can have confidence in the expertise and professionalism of certified interior designers.

In contrast, the other options focus on different aspects of construction and design fields. Certifying builders' qualifications, accrediting architecture programs, and regulating construction practices are separate functions that are handled by other organizations and governing bodies, each with its own specific goals and frameworks.
